An Australian soldier has died after he reportedly collapsed during a training exercise in the Northern Territory.
The Department of Defence confirmed the 20-year-old man died on Thursday, with soldiers from his platoon immediately delivering first aid.
The soldier collapsed from heat exhaustion, The Daily Telegraph reports.
“It is with profound grief that the Australian Defence Force confirms the death of an Australian Army soldier in the Northern Territory on 25 March 2021,” a Defence spokesperson said in a statement.
An ambulance was called and paramedics began treating the man within 15 minutes.
“We extend our sincere condolences to the family and friends, and are providing ongoing welfare support at this difficult time,” the spokesperson added.
“While Defence is investigating, the cause of death is yet to be determined by the coroner, therefore it is not appropriate for us to discuss the matter further at this time.”
