Two international travellers have sparked a COVID scare in Melbourne after bypassing mandatory quarantine.
The arrivals, believed to be relatives from Germany, arrived in Sydney on Saturday morning.
However, instead of going from the International Terminal into hotel quarantine, they made their way to the Domestic Terminal and boarded a Virgin flight bound for Melbourne.
The 130 other passengers on flight VA838 have been urged to self-isolate immediately and contact the Department of Health and Human Services.
In addition, anyone who was at Melbourne Airport’s domestic terminal on Saturday afternoon should be vigilant for symptoms of coronavirus.
Questions are being asked as to how the travellers skipped hotel quarantine and made their way between the terminals.
So far, there are no answers. However, 7NEWS understands NSW Health Minister Brad Hazzard has promised his Victorian counterpart a full investigation.
It’s also understood Virgin has supplied Melbourne’s health authorities with the manifest from the flight.
The flight was Virgin Airways VA838 from Sydney to Melbourne, which left at midday on December 5 and arrived at 1.25pm.
It comes as both New South Wales and Victoria prepares to significantly ease restrictions.
Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews is expected to speak later on Sunday morning to lift limitations on gatherings and mandatory mask use.
