Victoria’s revamped hotel quarantine scheme is facing its biggest test yet after five returned travellers tested positive for coronavirus.
It breaks a streak of more than 40 consecutive days without an infection across the state.
There are still no locally acquired infections.
Victoria only resumed its hotel quarantine system on Monday after suspending it for several months.
The second wave and its subsequent lockdowns originated from infections in hotel quarantine spreading to workers, who then inadvertently spread it through the community.
This is a developing story. More to come.
