Veteran radio host Jeremy Cordeaux dropped by FiveAA for Brittany Higgins slur

A veteran radio host who called Brittany Higgins a “silly girl who got drunk” has been sacked by the station.

Broadcaster Jeremy Cordeaux was dropped from his weekend breakfast program on Nova’s FiveAA, it was confirmed on Monday morning.

That followed comments made during Saturday morning’s broadcast where he questioned the validity of Higgins’ rape allegations.

In a statement read on air shortly after 7am on Monday, host David Penberthy apologised to Higgins.

“Without reservation whatsoever, FiveAA and Nova Entertainment sincerely apologise to Brittany Higgins for the comments made by Jeremy Cordeux on FiveAA’s weekend breakfast show on Saturday morning.

“We acknowledge that the comments were completely inappropriate and offensive.

“The views expressed by Mr Cordeux do not reflect those held by FiveAA and Nova Entertainment and we unequivocally withdraw them.

“Mr Cordeux’s employment has been terminated and FiveAA and Nova Entertainment have immediately taken action to ensure this can never happen again.”

Cordeaux, 75, said Prime Minister Scott Morrison should have publicly refuted Higgins’ rape allegations.

“I just ask myself why the Prime Minister doesn’t call it out for what it is — a silly little girl who got drunk,” Cordeaux said.

“If this girl has been raped, why hasn’t the guy who raped her been arrested?”

Higgins came forward last month with claims that she was raped by a fellow Liberal party staffer in 2019.

Several separate lines of inquiry have begun to investigate her allegations.
