A worker has quit her job in spectacular fashion, by leaving her boss a polite but very pointed note announcing her resignation.
The employee of the Target chain in the US posted a picture of her note to Reddit, and the reaction was overwhelmingly of the “you go, girl” variety.
The woman said she had found a much better job and didn’t need a reference from her boss, so she felt no qualms about leaving the note on her employer’s desk.
While it wasn’t the most brutal “I quit” note in history, it still had a subtle and very pointed sting.
The Target post-it note has the pre-printed words “I appreciate you for …” at the top and #YouMakeTarget at the bottom.
In between, the worker wrote:
“Hey Jordan! Just wanted to let you know that I will not be returning to work tomorrow, or next week!
“Thx hun! – M.
“PS, I will never understand why you were always so rude to me!”
She finished off the note with a smiley-face emoji.
People were impressed with the little touches – “thx hun” and the smiley-face at the bottom of the note in particular.
“You will definitely be better off. Happy New Year!”, one person wrote.
Others were curious about what kind of “bad boss” Jordan was.
“Gimme the tea! What did Jordan do?,” another wrote.
But others were not so complimentary about the goodbye note.
“I could never do this,” one Reddit user said.
“I’d just feel way too guilty about the workload it created for the rest of my team.”
“Y’all may laugh and cheer on how to leave a job – but trust me, once you step foot out of retail and into a more professional career, you’ll see what we’re saying about burning bridges and about how to leave a job,” said another.
