A P-plate driver has been caught allegedly driving almost twice the speed limit with her two young children in the back seat in southern Sydney.
Jayda Brown, 20, is accused of driving more than 65km/h above the speed limit on the Princes Highway at Waterfall on Monday morning.
Officers were conducting stationary speed-enforcement duties when they saw a Mitsubishi SUV allegedly being driven at 147km/h in the signposted 80km/h zone.
When she was pulled over, highway patrol officers noted her two children, aged four and two, were sitting in the backseat.
City South Highway Patrol Chief Inspector Paul Cibulka told 7NEWS that she told officers she was “going to her sister’s children’s party”.
Instead she was taken to Sutherland Police Station for further testing after a roadside drug test proved positive.
Chief Inspector Cibulka said it was “one of the more reckless” cases he had seen in his 31 years in the police force.
“I’ve seen a lot of it but that’s one of the worst ones I’ve seen,” he said.
“It was just a disaster waiting to happen and thank god she was stopped before anything did happen.”
Jayda was fined $2,520 for exceeding speed by more than 45km/h and had her licence suspended on the spot for six months.
She could face another $572 fine for driving with illicit drugs in her system pending the outcome of a laboratory test.
A child-at-risk notification has also been made.
