And the veteran journalist’s very first in-studio interview guest was her mum Julie, who dropped into Brekky Central for a special chat on the couch.

Julie told viewers that she is “very proud” of Nat and revealed a childhood health battle that sparked her daughter’s fierce determination.
“Way back in Year 10 she became very ill and missed a whole term of school with a very serious infection called osteomyelitis in her vertebrae,” Julie explained.
“That’s where the determination set in, because she wanted to be a journalist right from about then and went back very determined that she was going to get through, and obviously she did!” she added.
Julie, who lives in the small Western Australian city of Bunbury where Nat grew up, said the new Sunrise co-host “was always very dedicated to what she did and focused to what she did.”
“She was also quite bossy at some stages and surprise, surprise, she talked a lot,” she joked.
Nat’s new gig
Channel Seven announced on Sunday that Natalie Barr would become the new Sunrise co-host after Samantha Armytage stepped down to spend more time with her family.
Barr is a familiar face to viewers, having served as Sunrise’s newsreader and regular fill-in co-host over the last 18 years.
She joined David ‘Kochie’ Koch at the desk alongside sports presenter Mark Beretta, news and entertainment presenter Edwina Bartholomew and weatherman Sam Mac for her first day on Monday.
