Red-bellied black snake found slithering in sand dunes at Maroubra in Sydney

Beachgoers have had the shock of their life after encountering a venomous breed of snake in Sydney’s eastern suburbs.

Photographs of the potentially lethal red-bellied black snake slithering in the sand dunes at the popular Malabar Headlands walking track were posted to the Maroubra Community Facebook page on Wednesday.

Beachgoers have since been warned to keep an eye out for snakes when walking through sand dunes.

“Please be careful on the walkway at Maroubra Beach, red belly spotted,” a local named Sarah wrote.

Locals were shocked by the find and also urged dog-walkers to take care.
