Real Madrid beat Sevilla 1-0 at the Sanchez Pizjuan in La Liga to ease the pressure on coach Zinedine Zidane.
The breakthrough came on 56 minutes as Brazilian winger Vinicius got the slightest of touches on Ferland Mendy’s cross to send the ball squirming past the keeper.
Real Madrid dominated the first half but Bono saved at full-stretch from Karim Benzema and Vinicius sent an effort from a Rodrygo Goes cross just wide.
In the end, Vinicius’s goal was enough and Real Madrid have moved third above their hosts as they go into a big Champions League week.
Earlier, Levante had beaten nine-man Getafe 3-0.
Roger Marti put the home side 1-0 up after five minutes and Chema Rodriguez was shown a straight red in the same move for a high kick on Dani Gomez.
Further goals from Gomez on 17 minutes and Jorge De Frutos on 56 minutes, and the sending off of Djene on 76 minutes made matters worse for the visitors.
“The match was a disaster for us,” said Getafe keeper David Soria. “There are days when things don’t work out. It was just too difficult with two players sent off.”
