Porte still second in Volta behind Yates

Britain’s Adam Yates has maintained his overall lead after the fifth stage of the Volta a Catalunya while Richie Porte, his Australian teammate at Ineos Grenadiers, remains in second place overall with just two stages left.

With no major changes in the general classification, Yates is still 45 seconds ahead of Porte after crossing the line in 25th place in the 201.5km ride from La Pobla de Segur to Manresa on Friday.

Porte came home among the group in 33rd place to seal his second place while another Ineos rider, the 2018 Tour de France winner Geraint Thomas, is four seconds further back in the GC.

Three-time Tour de France winner Chris Froome was 73rd, more than 40 minutes off the pace.

The stage was won by German rider Lennard Kamna, of Bora-Hansgrohe, who finished 39 seconds ahead of Ruben Guerreiro of EF Education-Nippo, with Mikel Bizkarra (Euskaltel-Euskadi) third.
