Police officer in hospital after being stabbed in Narraweena

A police officer has been stabbed while responding to an incident on Sydney’s Northern Beaches.

Emergency Services were called to a home on Warringah Road at Narraweena around 5.30pm on Friday where they were approached by a man allegedly armed with a knife.

It’s alleged the man threw a fire extinguisher at a police officer, hitting him in the head.

The officer was also allegedly stabbed in the hand during the confrontation.

A second officer then opened fire on the man, shooting him in the leg.

The man was taken to hospital under police guard in a stable condition.

The police officer was also taken to hospital.

Neither man is believed to have life-threatening injuries.

A critical incident has been declared.

Investigations continue.
