Mick Schumacher intends to watch races of his legendary father Michael before his Formula One debut next season but said that alone will not be enough to prepare him for the elite motorsport series.
“Of course it makes sense to look at old races. But the whole Formula One has continued to develop over the years,” the 21-year-old Schumacher told the Bild paper on Wednesday.
“That’s why I can’t just watch my favourite races rather also those from recent years.”
Schumacher won the Formula 2 series this season and will race the US team Haas in F1 next season.
He will get a taste for the car in Friday practice ahead of Sunday’s season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
And the young driver said he was proud to bring the Schumacher name back to F1 after his father won a record seven world titles matched by Lewis Hamilton this year.
“Perhaps there’s pressure but I don’t really notice it,” Schumacher said. “I love this sport, I love what I do.
“That’s why I find it easy to work on my dreams.”
