Joanna Lumley is synonymous with the very best of British comedy.
The author, model, activist and presenter is best known for her role as Patsy in the iconic TV series Absolutely Fabulous.
But her more recent roles, including playing Leonardo Di Caprio’s Aunt Emma in The Wolf of Wall Street and travelling the globe with her series of breathtaking travel documentaries, have found the actress expanding her fanbase
Now, she’s among a cast of legendary actors lending their voices to a heart-warming reimagining of Peter Pan.
An all-star cast
“We decided to take the long-ish book – 47,000 words – reduce it to about 17,000 and just take it in turns,” Lumley told The Morning Show.
“It was quite easy to get a good cast…Jennifer Saunders…David Walliams…Kit Harrington…it was just a joy to do.”
“We all do our different versions of Captain Hook and the crocodile and Peter’s voice…so we all have a go of it.”
A good cause
Peter Pan: An Abridged Audio Edition is published in aid of the Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity, to help support Great Ormond Street Hospital which was gifted the rights to Peter Pan by the author in 1929.
Proceeds will also help The Peter Pan Moat Brae Trust, which restored the property that inspired author JM Barrie.
“The house where JM Barrie stayed as a boy, when he was about 14, is where he dreamed up Peter Pan,” Lumley said.
“And the house was beginning to fall down and crumbling…so we set up a company and saved it, and restored it beautifully – now it’s the Children’s Centre for Literature and Storytelling.”
Peter Pan: An Abridged Audio Edition is available now.
