IPhone emergency SOS: Safety hack boost in popularity after British woman Sarah Everard killed

A hidden function on the iPhone has captured the attention of women around the world as the dangers of walking home alone at night is put back in the spotlight.

Pressing the side button on your iPhone five times immediately calls emergency services and alerts them to your location.

The hack applies to all iPhones, but has been modified in the iPhone 8 onwards to be more user-friendly.

People are sharing the little known hack to social media, in the wake of the murder of British woman Sarah Everard while on her way home.

Sarah Everard, 33, was last seen on March 3 walking from a friend’s house in London’s south.

A week later, police found her body buried in the woods.

A Metropolitan Police Officer has been charged with kidnapping and murder.
