Josip Ilicic inspired Atalanta with a goal and two assists as they produced an excellent performance to win 4-1 at Benevento and move to fourth in Italy’s Serie A.
The 32-year-old Slovenian Ilicic opened the scoring for the Bergamo visitors on the half-hour mark before Marco Sau temporarily equalised after the break, converting a rare chance for the hosts.
Ilicic then made the goals for Rafael Toloi and Duvan Zapata that put the game beyond doubt in the space of three minutes in the middle of the secind half.
Toloi tapped in after an effort from Ilicic, who then crossed for Zapata’s volley before Luis Muriel came on as a substitute for Atalanta and drilled in his 10th league goal of the season.
The Bergamaschi, now on 40 goals, are one behind top scorers Inter Milan.
