Generous Aussies donate $80,000 to build sun-proof play area for Victorian boy allergic to sunlight

Last week we brought you the story of Victorian toddler George Maddern, who was born with a rare genetic condition that essentially makes him allergic to sunlight.

Now we’re happy to report that the brave little boy’s parents have hit their $80,000 fundraising goal to build him a sun-proof play area.

It means he will able to play during the daytime as he grows up and his family will no longer need to close all blinds around the house for him to do so.

18-month-old George was diagnosed with the extremely rare genetic condition, called Xeroderma pigmentosum, shortly after birth.

The condition makes him ultra-susceptible to sunburn and skin cancer and there is currently no cure.
