Employment jumps by 88,700 in February

LABOUR FORCE DATA FOR FEBRUARY:

* Unemployment rate – 5.8 per cent versus 6.3 per cent in December

* Underemployment rate (employed people seeking additional work) – 8.5 per cent versus 8.1 per cent

* Employment rose 88,700

* Full-time positions rose 89,100

* Part-time employment fell 500

* Participation rate (people working or looking for work): 66.1 per cent (no change)

STATE UNEMPLOYMENT RATES

NSW – 5.6 per cent in February versus 6.0 per cent in January

Vic – 5.6 per cent versus 6.3 per cent

Qld – 6.1 per cent versus 6.9 per cent

SA – 6.8 per cent versus 7.0 per cent

WA – 6.0 per cent versus 6.1 per cent

Tas – 5.7 per cent versus 5.9 per cent

NT – 4.9 per cent versus 5.6 per cent

ACT – 4.1 per cent versus 4.4 per cent
