A teenager struck by a van while walking with a friend in Sydney’s south has died in hospital.

The 17-year-old was hit by the car when it allegedly mounted the kerb of the Hume Highway in Casula on Thursday afternoon.

He suffered critical head injuries and remained in an unstable condition in Liverpool Hospital for several days.

However, on Sunday morning, NSW Police said he had died from his injuries about 2am on Saturday.

Officers from the Crash Investigation Unit are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash and the driver of the van, 37-year-old Cameron Forsyth, remains before the courts.
