Sydney Sixers import Carlos Brathwaite’s four wickets have cooled the Brisbane Heat, Chris Lynn notching his slowest BBL half-century to set 149 for victory on the Gold Coast.
Chasing a fourth straight win and a move to third, the Heat never reached top gear despite the Sixers offering Lynn (56 off 44) two lives.
With top spot the Sixers’ prize for victory, Jackson Bird (2-22) and Stephen O’Keefe (0-23) kept the Heat below a run a ball in the first nine overs and Brathwaite (4-18) benefited every time he returned the crease.
The West Indian picked up Lynn and had three batsmen caught behind as the Heat’s momentum was continually halted by untimely wickets.
Lynn was dropped on six and 36, first by Dan Christian off Jackson Bird then by Bird off Christian.
Bird’s was a sitter and it was only a stroke of luck that stopped a repeat, the ball lodging between his thighs after he spilt a crisp Jimmy Peirson cover drive.
Lynn was eventually dismissed in the 16th over, Jordan Silk calmly lobbing the ball back to himself after catching a bullet-like pull shot as he fell over the rope.
It was left to Lewis Gregory (26 off 15) to provide the fireworks, the English import hitting two sixes as the Heat were bowled out on the final ball of the innings.
