Bindi Irwin’s mum Terri has taken to social media to share her joy at the arrival of her grandchild – Grace Warrior Irwin Powell.
Her daughter took to Instagram on Friday night to share the news that her baby girl was born on Thursday – which also happens to be the first anniversary of her marriage to Chandler Powell.
“Love is not a big enough word,” Terri Irwin wrote.
“My heart is so incredibly happy.
“And I know that Steve would be beyond proud.
“Grace is the next generation to continue his mission and message of conservation.
“She chose her parents wisely.
“Bindi and Chandler are already the best parents ever!”
Bindi announced the birth of Grace with an adorable photo of the newborn wrapped in a grey blanket and wearing a pink beanie.
“March 25, 2021. Celebrating the two loves of my life,” she wrote.
“Happy first wedding anniversary to my sweetheart husband and day of birth to our beautiful daughter.
“Grace Warrior Irwin Powell. Our graceful warrior is the most beautiful light.
“Grace is named after my great-grandmother, and relatives in Chandler’s family dating back to the 1700s.
“Her middle names, Warrior Irwin, are a tribute to my dad and his legacy as the most incredible Wildlife Warrior.
“Her last name is Powell and she already has such a kind soul just like her dad.
“There are no words to describe the infinite amount of love in our hearts for our sweet baby girl.
“She chose the perfect day to be born and we feel tremendously blessed.”
Bindi frequently shared pictures of her pregnancy journey with her mum Terri and brother Robert close by.
A photo posted on March 16 of a heavily pregnant Bindi standing alongside Terri, Chandler and Robert had many fans speculating that the baby’s birth was only days away.
In February, Terri dropped a hint that the baby was likely to be named after someone in the family.
“I do have a bit of a scoop, which is that they are looking at family tree names,” Terri said in an interview with The Morning Show.
Terri, who was married to Australia’s beloved crocodile hunter Steve Irwin until his tragic death in 2006, said the couple’s 22-year-old daughter was looking at “some of the names within my side of the family and Chandler’s side of the family to get ideas”.
“You know how people go to baby names online – they’re looking at the family tree.
“So there’s a clue for all of us.”
The 56-year-old matriarch of the Irwin family also revealed what she would like Bindi’s baby to call her.
“In Europe, they often call grandmothers bunny, so I’m going to be ‘grandma bunny.’
“I thought that was really cute.”
