American TikTok user shares the things about life in Australia that baffle him

An American living in Australia has revealed the four things that baffle him most about life Down Under.

Adam, who goes by the online moniker amfoskey, shared a video to TikTok detailing the four things he can’t wrap his head around.

Road rules featured prominently in his list.

“First up we have no turn at a red light,” he told his followers.

“And what I mean by that is in America we have right on red, however in Australia, y’all don’t have left on red.

“Traffic is already backed up for miles, I feel like this would just keep things moving.”

The majority of intersections in Australia forbid drivers from turning left on a red light. Some do allow drivers to turn, provided they come to a complete stop first.

“Next up we have the game of rock-paper-scissors,” Adam says.

“Or as y’all refer to it, scissors-paper-rock. I don’t understand why y’all refer to it as that.”

TikTok viewers disputed this, with some saying that it may differ state-by-state.

“Can confirm I am an Aussie that calls it Rock Paper Scissors,” one person wrote.

Adam continued to have a dig at the way Australians pronounce car manufacturer Nissan.

“Next up we have nee-sahn, as in the car manufacturer. I don’t understand how y’all pronounce this as Nissan.

“And lastly we have roads. Y’all roads are so small but somehow 18-wheelers maneuver these things like it’s a Nascar race.”

Adam’s video has been viewed more than 233,000 times in only 20 hours.

It’s drawn mixed reactions – with a majority of people homing in on the order they say rock-paper-scissors.
