Alex Carey respond after Allan Border call Australia A an absolute disgrace

Alex Carey says he’d love to chat all things cricket with Allan Border after the former Test skipper blasted Australia A’s performance against India as “an absolute disgrace”.

Border particularly took aim at Carey’s captaincy during the warm-up match ahead of the opening Test of the summer on Thursday.

Australia was rolled for 108 in their first innings before India spanked 4d-386 in their second dig and held a 472-run lead by the time the hosts were due to bat again.

It sparked a scathing review from Border ahead of play on day three on Sunday.

“One of the worst, lethargic performances I have seen in the last session of any cricket,” Border said on Fox Cricket.

“This is Australia A, they are representing Australia, they are young blokes trying to make their way.

“That fielding performance, bowling performance, captaincy performance — an absolute disgrace. Not up to scratch at all.

“Just not good enough boys I’m afraid, I don’t often have a crack but after last night you deserve it.

“If Alex Carey is in line to be an Australian captain, he has got a lot of work to do for me. He has gone down quite a few pegs.

“He is a good cricketer Alex Carey, he has got a bit of energy himself, but yesterday he should have reacted to the way the general feel around the team was.”

The Aussies responded in their second innings with solid knocks from Carey (58), Ben McDermot (107 not out) and Jack Wildermuth (111 not out).

Carey addressed Broder’s criticism after the game ended in a draw.
