AFLW game moved due to COVID-19 scare

The AFLW’s match of the round has been moved from Queensland to Victoria due to a doctor at a Brisbane hospital testing positive for COVID-19.

Ladder-leaders Collingwood were meant to be travelling to Brisbane for Sunday’s clash with the Lions at Hickey Park.

But the Lions will instead travel to play the undefeated Magpies at Whitten Oval in Footscray.

“While COVID-19 continues to impact the community, the health and welfare of our players and the community remains the priority,” AFLW boss Nicole Livingstone said.

“We remain committed to delivering a full season in a safe manner anchored in the advice of respective governments, public health officials and medical experts.

“The afternoon slot allows for the Brisbane Lions to fly into Melbourne on Sunday morning and return to Brisbane on Sunday night.”

The doctor – who is yet to be vaccinated – had contact with the patient at Princess Alexandra Hospital this week before testing positive on Friday.

It was set to be Collingwood’s first trip outside of Victoria for the AFLW season.
