10-year-old boy reels in monster 88kg tuna after three hour battle off Tasmania

A 10-year-old boy has reeled in a new record after catching an 88kg tuna while fishing off Maatsuyker Island in Tasmania.

It took little Lochie Miller two hours and 45 minutes to land his catch on the family boat following a brutal tussle with the monster fish last Sunday.

“It was very hard to reel it in, it was really heavy and I was very tired by the end” he told Sunrise.

It’s believed the 1.9 metre fish is the largest southern bluefin tuna caught on a 24kg line by someone under the age of 11.

Lochie’s dad, Leo, said his “determined” son wouldn’t let him step in to help.
